Connect your server to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Four steps. Your AI gets a safe view of your server through AskYourStack, and can only change things when you open a window.

Four steps

AskYourStack is an MCP server: the standard way AI tools connect to outside services. Once it is connected, you ask your AI about your server in plain words, and it reads logs, settings and scans to answer.

Services in your account
  1. 1

    Get AskYourStack

ShopWhizzy hosting clients pay half price: add AskYourStack to your hosting order, or from Services in your account. You can also start on the free plan, which lets the AI look at one server, read-only.

  2. 2

Install the agent on your server

On a ShopWhizzy server, our support can run it for you: open a ticket and tell us which sites the AI should see.

  3. 3

    Add AskYourStack to your AI

Every client uses the same address: https://askyourstack.com/mcp

  4. 4

    Test it

Start a new chat and ask: "What runs on my server, and is anything wrong?"

# On your server, as the user that owns your sites
curl -fsSL https://askyourstack.com/install.sh | sh -s <your-key>
# The same for every AI client
https://askyourstack.com/mcp
# Add the server, then run /mcp and authenticate
claude mcp add --transport http askyourstack https://askyourstack.com/mcp
# mcp.json
{ "mcpServers": { "askyourstack": {
    "url": "https://askyourstack.com/mcp" } } }
# To stop the agent completely
systemctl disable --now askyourstack-agent

Read-only until you allow changes

Install the agent

Copy, paste, done.

In your AskYourStack dashboard, copy the install command and run it on the server as the Linux user that owns your sites. Run it as root only if you want the AI to manage the whole server. It looks like this, with your own key at the end:

  • Changes are off by default. Open a change window for 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours from the dashboard, and it closes by itself.
  • Deleting data, dropping databases, changing SSH or closing firewall ports always waits for your approval.
  • Every command and file change is recorded in the activity log, and risky work is snapshotted first.

Step 3 in your AI tool

  • Claude

    Chat app

    1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
    2. Search the directory for AskYourStack and press Connect. If it is not listed, add a custom connector named AskYourStack with the address above and leave the OAuth fields empty.
    3. Sign in to AskYourStack, check that the request comes from Claude and press Allow.
    4. In a chat, open the tools menu and make sure AskYourStack is switched on.
  • ChatGPT

    Chat app

    1. Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
    2. Back in Apps & Connectors, press Create. Name it AskYourStack, paste the address and set Authentication to OAuth.
    3. Press Create, sign in on the AskYourStack page and press Allow.
    4. In a chat, open the + menu and pick AskYourStack.
  • Claude Code

    Code editor

    1. In a terminal, add the server with the command below.
    2. Start claude, run /mcp, select askyourstack and choose Authenticate.
    3. Sign in on the page that opens and press Allow.
  • Cursor

    Code editor

    1. Open Cursor Settings, go to Tools & MCP and choose New MCP server.
    2. Add the lines below to mcp.json and save.
    3. Press Needs login next to askyourstack and sign in.
  • Windsurf, Codex

    Code editor

    1. Windsurf and Codex cannot sign in with OAuth: use the private address from step 3 of your AskYourStack dashboard instead, and keep it secret, because the address is the key.

The Model Context Protocol is the standard way AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor connect to outside services. AskYourStack is an MCP server: your AI calls its tools to read and, when you allow it, change your server.
No. Install the agent as the Linux user that owns your sites and the AI manages those sites only. Install it as root only if you want it to manage the whole server.
Do nothing: changes are off until you open a change window from your AskYourStack dashboard. To stop the agent completely, run systemctl disable --now askyourstack-agent on the server.
Yes, the number depends on your AskYourStack plan. All servers appear in the same connection, and you tell the AI which one you mean.
